What to wear to your birthday shoot

A few simple styling tips that make studio birthday photos pop, from colour choices to bringing a second look.

Your birthday shoot is a celebration, so your outfit should feel like one. Here are a few things I share with every client before a studio session.

Go bold with colour

Bright, solid colours look stunning against a clean studio backdrop. Rich yellows, reds, pinks and blues photograph beautifully and make you the focus of every frame.

Bring a second look

If you can, pack two outfits: one statement piece, like a gown or a tailored suit, and one softer, relaxed look. Two looks give you more variety for the same session.

Mind the fit

Clothes that fit well always photograph better. If a dress has a long train or a dramatic sleeve, tell me ahead of time and we’ll plan poses that show it off.

Accessories and props

Crowns, sashes, balloons and flowers all add personality. Let me know what you’re bringing so we can build the set around it.

Arrive ready

Plan to arrive with hair and makeup done, and give yourself a few minutes to settle in. The more relaxed you feel, the better the photos.
